Domain Name selection

Here are few suggestions for selecting a domain name

  • Domain names may be up to 67 characters total (including the suffix).
  • Domain names are alphanumeric
  • Hyphen is but not at the beginning or end of the name.
  • Other punctuation cannot be used in a domain name.
  • As a general rule, short names are better than long names.
  • If you decide to use an abbreviation also register the full name of your organization. For example: www.VoyagerWD.com and www.VoyagerWebDesign.com.
  • Avoid word Ambiguity. For example avoid: 2,to,too & two; stalking, stocking, crazy-8 & crazy-eight and similar ambiguous words.
  • Don't use a domain name that would normally require an apostrophe or hyphen. For example don't use a name such as "www.joesPoolHall.com", because "joes" grammatically should be "joe's"
  • Unless there is a compelling reason to use one of the some other suffix, use .org or .gov or .com for your suffix. People are familiar with using these expected suffixes.
